The cooperation with IOC is implemented through the IOC's International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange programme (IODE). The IODE was established in 1961 to enhance marine research, exploitation and development by facilitating the exchange of oceanographic data and information between participating Member States and by meeting the needs of users for data and information products.
Within IODE a specialized group has been established, the IODE Group of Experts on Marine Information Management.
This is a team of knowledgeable marine science information management professionals selected carefully to identify and discuss issues that merit attention in the IODE work plan. The GEMIM then recommends actions to the IODE Committee that can decide to establish specific projects (and allocate funds as required).
Euraslic can play a key role here by cooperating closely with the GEMIM-experts, informing them on important aquatic information issues, especially related to the end-user requirements. For more information, contact the current GEMIM Chair, Dr. Murari P Tapaswi, murari@darya.nio.org.
